 The Rebellious Rebel

Joey was rebellious from youth and the more His mother prayed the worst he seemed to get. Joey came from a very strong Christ-centered family but he would have nothing to do   with Christ, the bible or church. His mom hosted a prayer meeting weekly and faithfully invited Joey to attend. Joey would get obnoxious about her invitations. Here was a very violent response in front of the prayer group: “Joey come and join us in prayer.” “OLD LADY HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU I AM NOT INTO THE JESUS THING? I DO NOT WANT TO PRAY; I DO NOT WANT TO READ THE STINK’IN BIBLE AND FURTHERMORE QUIT PRAYING FOR ME. I WILL NEVER ASK JESUS TO BE MY SAVIOR AND I WILL NEVER BECOME A MINISTER. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?

Joey walked swiftly over to his mother and backhanded her sharply across the mouth. The resulting blow cut his mother’s mouth and bruised her face. Roger one of the, prayer meeting attendees, quickly ran over to Joey scooped him up and threw him down to the ground. He put the full weight of his 250 pound frame on Joey. “Help Joey’s mother and call the police to have Joey picked up for domestic abuse.”  The police shortly arrived and hauled Joey off to the jail. He was a tall, skinny, loud, rude eighteen-year old who finally would answer for his wild behavior toward his mother. The police had Joey handcuffed and were escorting him out the front door –before lightening could flash he kicked the one officer in the leg and hit the other one over the head with his handcuffs. He was gone with the wind down the street and around the corner.

Five minutes later a patrol car called on the scene cut Joey off and the officer sprung out of the car catching Joey slamming him to the ground and threw him into the car. This time he was on his way to jail. Back at the house the members prayed earnestly for Joey’s peace and salvation. His mother was visibly shaken and terrified from Joey’s violent outburst! “He has never slapped me like that before.  The Lord is faithful and will bring him home. The enemy will not steal him from the Savior and he will fulfill God’s call in his life.” Joey was as rebellious as they came and he did not go to jail lying down. He kicked, screamed and swore all the way to the jailhouse.

“Jim we have a real hot wire here. He took out two officers out on his initial arrest. I had to tackle him in the street to bring him down. He’s been rioting in the back of my car all the way here. He needs to be searched, booked and held until his trial. He roughed up his mother pretty good at a prayer meeting. ”So we got a real punk on our hands? “ “Son ,speaking as a Father, how about if I take off my uniform  and we go into the back cell and let’s see how much of tough guy you really are. “Ok cop let’s go I’ll kick your but to the moon.” So the police sergeant took off his uniform and put on his street clothes.

The two of them went into the last cell. Joey immediately put up his fists and started swinging away; the only thing he hit was air. The sergeant grabbed him by the shirt collar and pushed him down unto the jail cell bed. “Son I came here to fight for your soul not you! Your mother has been praying for you for years and this is the day the Lord is answering her prayer. The sergeant opened his bible at started reading at John 3:16” For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Joey, “the rebellious rebel” was one youth who finally met his match-Jesus.

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,”                                                                                                                Luke 4:18
