 This is the Last Chance

Jack was a rebel rouser as feisty as they come; for years he danced in the world and avoided church. Jesus   chased him for years because He had put a full-time call on Jack’s life. When Jack was young he heard Jesus calling him into His service; Jack was not a child of God but Jesus still called him into His service. Jack hardened his heart to the Lord’s pull since day 1. The Lord was infinitely patient with Jack but after 40 years of running the Lord would no longer strive with Jack. This is the tale of Jack’s last chance to yield to Jesus and become His child and answer His call. Will he do it?

Jack just suffered through his third divorce and he left a trail of five broken children in his aftermath without a father. He was bent on living his life for himself and it was all about Jack and what he wanted. His selfishness blocked the blessing of the Lord in his life for the last 40 years and he still wasn’t listening. Daily his kids would call begging to spend time with him. Did he listen? No, he was too busy attending the latest party or out drinking with his buddies in the bar, Jack didn’t have one ounce of responsibility in his bones; he was a sixteen-year-old inside a 45-year-old body.

The local church pastor knew Jesus was speaking to Jack about repenting from his evil lifestyle and the mission Jesus wanted Jack to accomplish. The pastor tried to talk to Jack over the years about turning his life over to Jesus and fulfilling his call. Jack didn’t listen to God. Do you think he would listen to the pastor? Jack was in real trouble going down life’s merry path.

Jack, angry from his last divorce battle, went driving to the local bar to drown his troubles. He hit the roadways during prime traffic time. He was in road rage cutting off this car and that one! He left in his wake a trail of angry drivers swerving every each way to avoid crashing into him. Jack could careless he was in Jack mode again. (Another words he was thinking of Jack only.)  Jack blatantly ran a red light and swerved violently to the right to avoid crashing into a young pedestrian walking across the street with her baby. He was speeding through that light at 90mph and could not handle the sharp turn he had to make to avoid the pedestrian; he flipped his car twice and slammed into a gasoline tanker and the truck and his car exploded into flames.

Jack died instantly from the explosion and came face to face with Jesus. “Son I plead with, I sent people into your life and spoke through the pastor! I have been trying to get your heart for the last 40 years and steer you into my kingdom; I put a call on your life when you were very young. I tried to get you to come to me but you refused. Now, you must reap what you have sown and it is too late for you and there is nothing I can do to save you now. You must now spend eternity in hell by your own choice. Depart me you worker of iniquity! Jack denied Jesus for the last time! Jack danced in the world all his life and it cost him the last chance.

God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted:

“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” Hebrews 4:7
